(CH3)4NCl 109.60 CAS RN®: 75-57-0.—Colorless crystals. Soluble in water and in alcohol; insoluble in chloroform.
Assay: Transfer about 200 mg, accurately weighed, to a beaker, add 50 mL of water and 10 mL of diluted nitric acid, swirl to dissolve the test specimen, add 50.0 mL of 0.1 N silver nitrate VS, and mix. Add 2 mL of ferric ammonium sulfate TS and 5 mL of nitrobenzene, shake, and titrate the excess silver nitrate with 0.1 N ammonium thiocyanate VS: each mL of 0.1 N silver nitrate is equivalent to 10.96 mg of (CH3)4NCl.
Not less than 98% is found.
