C14H12N2O2 240.26 CAS RN®: 959-36-4.—Use a suitable grade or prepare as follows. Dissolve 300 mg of hydrazine sulfate in 5 mL
of water, add 1 mL of glacial acetic acid and 2 mL of a freshly prepared 1-in-5 solution of salicylaldehyde in isopropyl alcohol, mix, and allow to
stand until a yellow precipitate is formed. Extract the mixture with two 15-mL portions of methylene chloride. Combine the methylene chloride
extracts, and dry over anhydrous sodium sulfate. Decant the methylene chloride solution, and evaporate it to dryness. Recrystallize the residue
of salicylaldazine from a mixture of warm toluene and methanol (60:40) with cooling. Filter, and dry the crystals under vacuum.
