CH3COCOOH 88.06 CAS RN®: 127-17-3.-Colorless to light yellow liquid. Miscible with water, with alcohol, and with ether.
REFRACTIVE INDEX (831): about 1.43 at 20°.
Assay: Accurately weigh about 1 g, transfer to a suitable container, and add 100 mL of water. Mix, add phenolphthalein TS, and titrate with 0.5 N sodium hydroxide VS. Each mL of 0.5 N sodium hydroxide is equivalent to 44.03 mg of CH3COCOOH: not less than 98% of CH3COCOOH is found.
