—To 350 mg of p-nitroaniline add 1.5 mL of hydrochloric acid, and mix. Dilute with water to 50 mL, mix, and allow to settle. Place 5 mL of the clear supernatant in a 100-mL volumetric ask, and immerse it in an ice bath. While it is in the ice bath, add 1 mL of hydrochloric acid, then add, in small portions, 2 mL of sodium nitrite solution (1 in 100), dilute with water to volume, and mix.
