Dissolve 150 mg of orthophenanthroline in 10 mL of a solution of ferrous sulfate, prepared by dissolving 700 mg of ferrous sulfate in 100 mL of water. The ferrous sulfate solution must be prepared immediately before dissolving the orthophenanthroline. Store in well-closed containers.
