Suitability for Determination of Aldehydes
Sample solution: Transfer 60 µL of 1 g/L of propionaldehyde in aldehyde-free methanol and 5 mL of 4 g/L of methylbenzothiazolone hydrazone hydrochloride in water to a 100-mL volumetric flask containing 2 mL of aldehyde-free methanol. Mix and allow the resulting solution to stand for 30 min. Add 25.0 mL of 2 g/L of ferric chloride in water to the flask and dilute with acetone to volume.
Blank: Transfer 5 mL of 4 g/L of methylbenzothiazolone hydrazone hydrochloride in water to a 100-mL volumetric flask containing 2 mL of aldehyde-free methanol. Mix and allow the resulting solution to stand for 30 min. Add 25.0 mL of 2 g/L of ferric chloride in water to the flask and dilute with acetone to volume.
