—Dissolve 10 g of potassium iodide and 6.44 g of potassium iodate in 75 mL of water in a glass-stoppered container. Add 75 mL of hydrochloric acid and 5 mL of chloroform, and adjust to a faint iodine color (in the chloroform) by adding dilute potassium iodide or potassium iodate solution. If much iodine is liberated, use a stronger solution of potassium iodate than 0.01 M at first, making the final adjustment with the 0.01 M potassium iodate. Store in a dark place, and readjust to a faint iodine color as necessary.
