HOCH2CH2N(CH3)3Cl 139.62 CAS RN®: 67-48-1.—White crystals or crystalline powder. Very soluble in water. Is hygroscopic. Store in tight containers.
Assay: Transfer about 100 mg, previously dried at 105° for 2 hours and accurately weighed, to a beaker, add 20 mL of water and 1 drop of aluminum chloride solution (1 in 10), and mix. Add slowly 20 mL of a freshly prepared, filtered sodium tetraphenylborate solution (1 in 50), and allow the mixture to stand for 30 minutes with occasional swirling. Pass through a medium-porosity, sintered-glass filter, and wash the beaker and the precipitate with four 10-mL portions of water. The weight of the precipitate, determined after drying at 105° for 2 hours, and multiplied by 0.3298, gives the equivalent weight of C5H14ClNO. Not less than 99.5% is found.
Residue on Ignition〈281〉: not more than 0.1%.
